I am a huge podcast nerd. At any given point in time, I follow 5 podcasts. Nothing makes me happier than listening to a podcast about a topic I am versed in. I feel that it expands my mind.

Recently, the NY Times had a 2-part series about pregnancy discrimination.

This podcast hit home, both on a personal and professional level. They quote some figured that really make you think: Women’s and men’s salaries rise in lock step until women have their first child. Then, men’s salaries continue to rise and women’s salaries decline.

Men get a 6% pay bump once they have a child.

For women, the situation is different, and each pregnancy shaves 4% off the salary.

Have a listen and remember this podcast when it is time to compose a leave policy. Make sure you don’t just put a smart policy in to place, but that you follow through with it.

Hope it resonates with you as much as it did with me.
